Dino Valente

Dino Valente, born Charles Anthony Valenti on 7 January 1939, was an American singer-songwriter primarily associated with the genres of folk rock and psychedelic rock. He is best known for his work with the band Quicksilver Messenger Service, where he contributed significantly to their signature sound in the late 1960s. Valente wrote some of the band's most notable songs, including "Get Together," which became a prominent anthem for peace and unity during the counterculture movement. Originally recorded by Valente in 1964, the song gained wider recognition when covered by the Youngbloods in 1969, solidifying its status as a classic. His self-titled album released in 1971 showcased his unique blend of folk and rock, further establishing his influence on the genre. Valente’s music often featured introspective lyrics and a laid-back style, embodying the spirit of the 1960s and 70s. Despite being somewhat overshadowed by other artists of his time, Valente's contributions to the psychedelic rock scene and his enduring songs have left a lasting impact on the genre, influencing subsequent generations of musicians. He passed away on 16 October 2020, leaving behind a legacy of rich musical storytelling.
